Candle lanterns can be used inside -provided you have proper ventilation- though they really shine on a patio or backyard at nighttime. You can hang the lanterns in trees, place them on the dining table, or around the perimeter of a garden to add warmth. If you are interested in using candles to light up a campsite, consider UCO lanterns. They are light, easy to pack and travel especially well.

If you are camping, or have lots of bugs around your yard, consider purchasing candles with insect repellant such as citronella. This makes sure you enjoy the warmth of the candles without unwanted company.

Candle lanterns vary in shape and size. The smallest lanterns use tea lights (either one or several floating together), while the largest lanterns use pillar candles as their standard. Of course, you can add smaller candles to them as well to provide more aeschetic appeal.

As for shapes, the most popular is the traditional cylindrical lantern design, though you can find round, flat or even oblong shapes at local craft stores and outdoor shops like REI. Most lanterns have a removable top (either lift or screw off), though larger models might have a door which swings outward.

Granted, this isn't the highest quality lantern you'll find by a long shot, though you'd only detect the lesser quality if you looked closely. For less than ten dollars, this decorative candle lantern offers quality lighting and color at a bargain price.

This lantern's amber hue is a perfect balance to the blue glass Moroccan lantern. The quality of glass is higher, with a rich texture and deep color, and makes an ideal addition to backyards, dining tables or bedrooms with strong red and gold overtones.You can line up several lanterns with tealights for a romantic outdoor setting.

At first glance, we didn't expect much from this lantern, but were pleasantly surprised when it arrived. The candle chamber opens and closes with ease (a real problem with decorative lanterns) and has found a home in the corner of our backyard. A word to the wise: they can be used as a hanging lantern (it comes with built in loops), but you have to purchase the chain separately.
